Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake took to Twitter this morning (May 3) to announce that the citywide curfew in the city has been lifted. Enacted in response to rioting and looting that took place in the city following the death of Freddie Gray, the mandate was reversed. Effective immediately, residents – and protesters – will be permitted on the streets after 10 p.m.:
Effective immediately, I have rescinded my order instituting a city-wide curfew. I want to thank the people of Baltimore for their patience.

My goal has always been to not have the curfew in place a single day longer than was necessary. I believe we have reached that point today.

Tensions in the city have decreased significantly since last week, as the six officers involved in Gray’s death has been ruled a homicide and the six officers involved now face charges, including second-degree murder, manslaughter and assault and misconduct in office.
“I heard your call for ‘no justice, no peace,’” Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby said. “Your peace is sincerely needed as I work to deliver justice on behalf of this young man.”
