The Beastie Boys are being sued.
A day before Beastie Boys member Adam “MCA” Yauch passed away, R&B label, Tuf America, hit the group with a copyright infringement lawsuit.
Despite Yauch’s death, the label is still continuing with the suit which claims that the Beastie Boys illegally sampled Trouble Funk’s “Drop the Bomb” on their Licensed to Ill tracks “Hold It Now Hit It” and “The New Style.”
In addition, the suit alleges that the group also illegally included portions of Funk’s “Say What” on the Paul’s Boutique song “Shadrach.”
The case, however, may be a tricky one as Tuf is relying on copyright laws that were put in place in the ’90’s, subsequent to the release of both albums.
Last week, Yauch passed away, ending his battle cancer of the salivary gland.
