“Old Town Road,” the country-trap track from social media phenom and rapper Lil Nas X, has gained tons of traction after the news of its “quiet removal” from the Billboard Country charts. According to the publication, the song “does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”
Despite the news, the song from the 19-year-old continues to gain steam, and by the looks of it, is gaining a remix with a country music superstar.
Billy Ray Cyrus, famous for the song “Achy Breaky Heart” and for appearing on the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, will reportedly hop on the remix of “Old Town Road.” The remixed version of the song will be available on streaming services at midnight (Apr. 5). Cyrus posted a reference to the song on his Instagram with the caption “Don’t try and think inside the box. Don’t think outside the box. Think like there is no box. #HorsesInTheBack.”
According to Rolling Stone, “Old Town Road” is sitting pretty at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and 39 new radio stations have added the song to their rotation, per Nielsen BDS. It currently sits at No. 2 on Spotify’s U.S. Top 50, behind a song from pop star Billie Eilish and in front of “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee.
