Anticipation for the movie Black Panther has been steadily building for quite some time. Now that February is upon us, many people are making sure that they grab their tickets in time.
A New York man is attempting to raise money to help underprivileged children from Harlem, so they can get the opportunity to see this culturally-important film as well.
On GoFundMe, Frederick Joseph wrote “The release of Marvel’s film the Black Panther is a rare opportunity for young students (primarily of color) to see a black major cinematic and comic book character come to life.”
The opportunity is provided through the organization Harlem Children’s Zone, and the private screenings will be shown at the Magic Johnson Theater. As of now, the page has raised over $8,000 of its $10,000 goal. The page notes that “All proceeds will go to paying for the private screening tickets for children and chaperones, as well as refreshments.” If Joseph exceeds his page’s donation goal, the remaining proceeds will go directly to the organization.
“This representation is truly fundamental for young people, especially those who are often underserved, unprivileged, and marginalized both nationally and globally,” he continued.
