Lots of new albums made noise on the charts this week. While Whitney Houston scored her fourth no. 1 album, Trey Songz, and Pitbull all landed in the Billboard 200‘s top tier.
Houston’s latest album, I Look To You, debuted with 305,000 copies sold, marking her best opening sales week to date, and first chart-topper since The Bodyguard soundtrack held the top slot for 20 weeks straight in 1992.
Following Houston is Trey Songz’s new album, Ready, which took the no. 3 spot with 130,000 copies sold in it’s first week. The singer’s third album is supported by appearances by Drake, Gucci Mane, Fabolous and Soulja Boy.
Pitbull also scored a decent debut, nabbing the no. 8 spot with his latest, Rebelution, selling 41,000 copies. The Miami rapper’s fourth album is fueled by hit singles “Krazy”, “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)”, and its latest, “Hotel Room Service.”
The last of the chart debuts sits way down at no. 77, as Beanie Sigel’s first official non-Def Jam release, Broad Street Bully sells 6,500 copies.
According to Billboard.com, overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Sept. 6) totaled 6.29 million units, up 8% compared to the sum last week (5.82 million) and down 7% compared to the same sales week of 2008 (6.75 million).
