Chris Brown’s alleged anti-gay rant on Twitter and past offenses may be grounds for his studio brawl with Frank Ocean to be considered a hate crime.
The two crooners allegedly got hostile when they crossed paths at a West Hollywood studio Sunday night. While the Grammy-nominated singer Ocean was reportedly the one to incite the aggression, Brown tweeted (then deleted) some comments.
“We’re currently investigating this as a battery, but it could be treated as an assault with a deadly weapon,” Officer Lyle Knight told Bossip. “In the process of the investigation they’ll decide whether it’s a hate crime.”
Frank had tweeted post-melee that he suffered a cut: “got jumped by chris and a couple guys. lol. i only wish everest was there,” he posed. “cut my finger now I can’t play w two hands at the grammys.”
Officer Knight said that charges could include assault with a deadly weapon depending on the severity of the victim’s injuries.
