After autopsy results revealed no foul play in the death of rapper Chris Kelly, an investigator has confirmed that a drug overdose took the 34-year-old’s life.
According to the Associated Press, Betty Honey of the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta revealed that toxicology report results showed that Kelly had a mixture of drugs in his system when he was pronounced dead on May 1.
Paramedics found Kelly unresponsive on his living room couch and tried to revive him. Although the exact drugs responsible for Kelly’s death weren’t immediately known, his mother, Donna Kelly Pratte, has told authorities the evening prior to his death that he had consumed speedballs, a combination of cocaine and heroin.
The hip-hop duo Kris Kross was known for setting trends in the early ’90s with their backward fashion sense and chart-topping 1992 hit “Jump.” Kelly, known as ‘Mac Daddy,’ and rap partner Chris Smith (‘Daddy Mac) were discovered by Jermaine Dupri in a local mall.
