What happens when you mix a Christian mother and Vince Staples’ “Norf Norf”? The answer: an over 11-minute teary-eyed rant about protecting our youth from this type of music.
After hearing the Long Beach MC’s “Norf Norf” on Top-40 radio while driving one of her daughters to school, an unnamed woman- who notes that she is a fan of Christian radio and grew up on wholesome music like the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears- couldn’t contain her shock at what she had heard blaring from the speakers in her family’s ride. Naturally, she decides to turn on her webcam and record herself venting her frustrations.
“I can’t believe this stuff is on the radio,” she says between tears, as one of her young children plays on the couch in the background. “This is what our youth is being subjected to.”
Throughout the rest of the video, the woman recites the lyrics to the Summertime ’06 track, such as “take a ni**a mind off that, we can dip, f**k in the whip.” She cries between a few sentences but gets through the distressing ordeal, reciting line after line, n-word after n-word, while her child continues to play in the room behind her.
“I’m not bashin’ people that listen to that music, but as a mom, man, I’m raising four little girls, and it just breaks my heart,” she says. “It’s almost like I was meant to hear it. When I pulled up these lyrics and I read what was being said, I have been so upset all morning because I cannot believe that they would play that. We need to pray.”
Staples hasn’t responded to the viral clip, but of course, Twitter has its two cents, which has been viewed over 200,000 times since being uploaded to YouTube on Sept. 6. Check out the full video and some responses below.
