While planning his annual pre-Grammy party, Clive Davis sat down with the Los Angeles Times for an interview to discuss his many ventures. At the top of the list was a project the publication called “especially close to his heart.” Davis shared with the LA Times that he is compiling a posthumous Whitney Houston album. Unlike any of the Houston’s previous projects, the new album will highlight the late singer’s penchant for an incredible live performance.
“Whitney never had a live album,” Davis told the LA Times. “I really want everyone to know … exactly why during her time she was considered the greatest contemporary singer in the world.”
Davis, who discovered Houston and groomed her into “The Voice,” shared in the interview that putting the album together has sprung up a range of emotions. Davis was a mentor and great friend to Houston, who passed on the very afternoon of Davis pre-Grammy bash in 2012. The new live album will include a number of performances that the record executive had not witnessed in person, including Houston’s 1994 concert in South Africa.

“It’s a revelation: You really hear how astonishing and powerful and compelling she was in a way that wasn’t captured on the studio albums or in her movie performances,” Davis said.
The famed producer also divulged a number of other projects he expects to share this year, including a Latin artist-duet album with Carlos Santana, a new Aretha Franklin album, as well as Jennifer Hudson’s long-awaited album.
“My plate is very full,” Davis said. “It’s a very exciting time.”
