Following a now-deleted Tweet from Eddie Murphy’s Twitter account on a possible sequel to the cult-classic, Coming to America, it looks like that notion might actually come to true.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s original writers, David Sheffield and Barry Blaustein, have agreed to craft the 1988 movie’s follow-up. In the first production, Eddie Murphy played the role of an extremely wealthy prince from an African country called Zamunda. After failing to find a suitable woman to marry, Prince Akeem traveled to Queens, New York to essentially find his queen, played by Shari Headley.
Once news of a potential sequel first surfaced, Murphy’s daughter had to update the 56-year-old on the matter. “When your dad doesn’t even realize he has a twitter account,” Bria Murphy wrote, highlighting her father’s confusion.
Confirmation of Murphy’s involvement in the reel is still unknown. The famed comedian recently lost his brother, Charlie Murphy, to leukemia on Wednesday (April 12).
