Nipsey Hussle’s slogan, “The Marathon Continues,” has been echoed and repeated around the world in the wake of the late rapper’s death. Now, the L.A. Crips are looking to get the mantra trademarked.
The Crips LLC reportedly filed for the trademark on May 16 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to the documents, the organization plans to use the trademark for commerce including “conducting youth sports programs; Concert booking; Developing educational manuals for others in the field of community organizing, gang prevention, gang intervention; Direction of making radio or television programs; Entertainment in the nature of boxing contests; Entertainment services in the nature of an ongoing reality-based television program; Entertainment services in the nature of development, creation, production, distribution, and post-production of documentaries and films.”
The Blast also reports that the Crips issued a press release announcing a “rebranding of the organizations under the holding companies and a refocused energy on the communities in South L.A.”
Following Nipsey’s death in Mar. 2019, the Crips and the Bloods held a meeting with their top leaders in order to bring peace to the streets. It is unclear if Nip’s family has approved over the request to trademark his slogan at this time.
