Just days before his upcoming show this Sunday at Roseland Ballroom (moved from MCU Park due to expected weather conditions), DJ-producer superstar, Afrojack, performed a special set at renowned dance club Cielo in New York City Thursday (Sept 19), hosted by the nightlife promoters of Dance.Here.Now. The Dutch music producer and DJ who has headlined some of the largest music festivals in the world played an intimate show that was advertised under his real name Nick van de Wall. On Twitter, he indicated that this would not be an ordinary show.
Afrojack hit the decks around 1:30am and delivered a two-hour set of deep house and techno in the intimate venue known for its house music. Instead of playing his many chart topping hits and remixes, van van de Wall churned out oldies, as well as unreleased music, making for a completely different show. The enthusiastic crowd, made up of many house music purists, welcomed the change of pace and remained energetic throughout.
Cielo welcomed up-and-comer, Tyler Sherritt, who spun in addition to Afrojack’s fellow countrymen Leroy Styles and Apster. Fans went collectively ape when Apster joined Afrojack on the decks for a back-to-back set.
At the close of his set, van de Wall came out of the booth and into the crowd to shake hands, hug and thank those who came out to enjoy the other side of Afrojack.
