According to authorities in the Dominican Republic, David Ortiz is believed to have been the victim of a targeted hit. Per the New York Post, a police officer may have been hired as a hit man. Reports state that the former MLB player was shot in the back by someone riding past on a motorcycle.
Rumors are swirling that the hit was due to an alleged affair between Ortiz and one of the cop’s wives. However, Ortiz’s rep Leo Lopez says that this act has nothing to do with women. A suspect, Eddy Feliz Garcia, is in police custody.
“David Ortiz is probably the most beloved and one of the most important players in our history,’’ said Red Sox President Sam Kennedy. “I’d be hard-pressed to think of anyone more beloved than David.’’
Ortiz, affectionately known as ‘Big Papi,’ was taken to the hospital and sent into surgery. His gallbladder and part of his intestine were removed, and his liver was also reportedly damaged. However, he is back in America and was reportedly stable enough to fly back to Boston for further treatment.
