The legendary Def Jam Recordings will celebrate its 30th anniversary with the launch of DEF JAM 30, a compilation of the most memorable records from pioneers of their label on Sept. 16. Founder Rick Rubin is set to curate a compilation of hits dating back to Def Jam’s reign that began in 1984. Selections From The Roots of Def Jam is a collection of 13 songs, equipped with a slew of rap’s forefathers like the Treacherous 3 and Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force, showcasing the musical inspirations of D.J. architects Rubin and Russell Simmons. DEF JAM 30 provides a complete look at hip hop, past to present with a 30-song track list ranging from Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” to YG’s “My N*gga.” Its lineup is an extensive look at hip hop under the scope of the label for the last three decades with artists such as Slick Rick, Onyx, Cam’Ron and Kanye West featured on the compilation. There will also be a major concert, to boot. Some of the label’s biggest recent stars and former signees will storm the stage including Rick Ross, DMX, Method Man, Redman, Ashanti, Ja Rule and Jhene Aiko. See the full rundown below.
