In October of last year, Derek Fisher and Matt Barnes reportedly engaged in a physical altercation at Barnes’ ex-wife’s house, Gloria Govan. Spectators were under the assumption that Fisher was involved romantically with Govan, something that reportedly didn’t sit well with the Memphis Grizzlies player.
Followers of the incident have only heard Barnes’ thoughts on the matter, something that he’s put behind him, but now the subject of his run-in with Fisher is coming back to the forefront.
In a lengthy letter posted on The Cauldron, Fisher went into minimal detail on the occurrence. His revelation was also prompted by his recent job loss as the New York Knicks’ head coach, which he also touched on, but didn’t forget to share his recollection of that day for the masses.
“I don’t know what was going through Matt’s mind that day in October when he showed up unannounced at Gloria’s house, and started swinging,” he writes. “I didn’t retaliate. No one who was there did anything but try to get him to calm down, particularly because Matt and Gloria’s children were present. There was no fight.”
Fisher also highlighted his relationship with Govan, writing that, “The relationship wasn’t something I was trying to publicize, but it also wasn’t something I was trying to hide, either. There was no reason to.”
