Rumors of her retiring this year hit the web after the Daily News reported that “a source close to Sawyer” said the World News anchor had “discussed with a few close friends and some people at ABC that she is seriously considering retiring,” possibly sometime in 2013 over personal family problems.
But SVP of ABC News Jeffrey Schneider swooped in and shut down the rumors in a statement to ET, saying, “That is not true.”
He even threw a direct shot at the newspaper: “And had the Daily News actually asked us if Diane was considering retiring we would have told them yesterday that it wasn’t true.”
The 67-year-old anchor has been recognized as one of the first esteemed female journalists since her start in broadcast news in 1967 in Louisville, KY. Her most notable interviews have included the first sit-down with Jaycee Dugard and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords during her remarkable recovery after the tragic shooting in Tucson, AZ.
