50 Cent seems to have crossed another beef from his endless list of enemies.
According to Funkmaster Flex (@funkmasterflex), the G-Unit boss embraced with long-standing rival Fat Joe today at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
“Just saw 50cent and Fat joe air check and shake hands!!!!!!!!!!!!,” Flex tweeted this afternoon.
The two NY heavies were recently under the same roof for the funeral of Chris Lighty, who’d managed both 50 and Joe. Complex reported that the rappers may appear on the stage at the awards simultaneously to honor Lighty, a legendary hip-hop executive who founded Violator management and died in a speculated suicide last month.
50 Cent and Fat Joe have been beefing so long that most can’t remember where the ill will stemmed. Yet it was the 2004 song “New York”—a collaboration with 50’s sworn rap nemesis Ja Rule that featured Jadakiss and Joe—that caused Fif’ to throw barbs at Joe and Jada on “Piggy Bank.” Both artists responded with their own diss records, and a long-standing back-and-forth beef was born.
Earlier this month, 50 appeared on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show and downplayed the impact Lighty’s death could have on his differences with Fat Joe.
“Nah. You know what I think? A lot of times it’s people who choose not to like you,” 50 said. “They could be across the street from you, they don’t have to have a conversation or have anything to be a source of why they feel that way about you. You can’t fix it in conversation with some of these people so I don’t even look to resolve any of that. I just move forward without focusing on it.”
The BET Awards will taped tonight at Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center. The show airs October 9. —John Kennedy
