If there’s one thing Sean “Diddy” Combs knows how to do, it’s add something a little extra to a party especially when it’s for family. The Bad Boy Records founder delivered a hologram of himself to the 23rd birthday celebration for his son, King Combs (Christian Combs) held on Thursday night (April 1). Why? Because he’s Diddy, but mainly because he had to tend to business matters in Miami, Florida while the extravaganza went down in Los Angeles.
In the life-sized hologram which also streamed in real-time, Combs starts singing “Happy Birthday,” gets on one knee with arms open wide as he substitutes his son’s name with “my life, my twin, my baby boy, my heart, my soul, my everything,” before shouting “happy motherf**kin’ birthday” and taking a shot of DeLeón Tequila.
Shortly after, Christian’s siblings—Chance, D’Lila Star, and Jessie—hopped into the hologram before Diddy delivered a more serious message to his son. “I just want to tell you how much of a blessing it is, that you’re my son. I feel like the coolest dad in the world…You taught me how to smile and I just want to tell you I love you for that. For being my son and I’m the most proudest dad in the world…Keep being that special person that you are!”
Combs partnered with PORTL, an interactive hologram machine that delivers “4K life-sized holographic displays allow you to connect with friends, family, or potential customers,” per the company’s official website.
“I invented PORTL to make the things we think of as being in the future happen now,” shared PORTL CEO David Nussbaum with VIBE. “To have a legend like P. Diddy use it to create an experience with his family that is real and emotional is perfect — it shows the importance of what we’re doing and I hope soon we’ll see more travel by PORTL, bringing people together who are separated by the pandemic, of financial or political problems, really anything.”
Pretty dope.
