DJ Khaled is taking on a new endeavor all for the kids. The multi-hyphenate music man is hosting the annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards this year. His main reason for taking the new gig is his adorable two year-old son, Asahd.
“The reason why I wanted to be the host of the Kids’ Choice Awards is because I’m a father,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “Now, I’m going to be able to host and my son can see me host and be like, ‘My daddy’s hosting [the] Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.’ And not just that, I’m about the young world, the future, the kids. Anything that makes the kids happy, that’s what I’m about.”

In addition to bringing some green slime and probably some keys to success to the kids, it’s worth mentioning how stiff the competition is this year among award nominees. Some notable nominations include Black Panther with five nominations, Cardi B and Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation with four nominations each. Other nominees include Jason Momoa, James Corden, Tyra Banks, Bebe Rexha and Noah Centineo among others.
Amid his hosting duties, Khaled is also being nominated for three Kids’ Choice Awards. In the past, he’s been nominated for Favorite Song and Favorite Male Artist for “I’m the One” featuring Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Chance The Rapper and Quavo.
Khaled is sure that he won’t disappoint and will bring in a great show. “It’s gonna be the biggest Kids’ Choice Awards ever,” he said. “It’s gonna be hard, very hard, I’m going to set the bar high, for host. Whosever hosting after this, I’m sure they’re gonna do a great job, and I’m gonna take nothing away from them, but the bar’s gonna be set high, because I’m coming!”
