Infamous boxing promoter Don King’s rambled introductory speech for Donald Trump featured a large bowl of ignorance, topped with garnishes of racism and a side of many shaking heads.
CNN reports the event took place at the New Spirit Revival Center in Toledo, Ohio Wednesday morning (Sept. 21). Trump’s determination to win voters over the state is clear–he’s visited the state twice in less than two months. This time, the Republican presidential nominee brought along Don King, one of the few high-profile people of color who take a liking to the politician. King took full advantage of his appearance by name dropping the late Michael Jackson in a speech about cultural assimilation.
“If you’re poor, you are a poor negro — I would use the n-word — but if you’re rich, you are a rich negro. If you are intelligent, intellectual, you are intellectual negro. If you are a dancing and sliding and gliding n***** — I mean negro — you are a dancing and sliding and gliding negro,” King said. “You’re going to be a negro ’til you die.” Laughter filled the room from literally everyone, as a broad grin on Trump’s face remained unturned. King continued, promising that Trump would bring the country “back to inclusiveness.”
The pandering praising didn’t stop there. Towards the end of the event, King joked Trump had the hands of a championship boxer. We’re sure he doesn’t.
