Pepsi is returning again as the sponsor of the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show and is bringing content and experiences to get fans closer to the action.
In homage to one of the most watched pop-culture moments of the year, Pepsi launched “Camp Halftime,” featuring actor/comedian Donald Faison. The four-part comedic series, filmed in partnership with The Kicker (Above Average’s sports comedy site from the makers of SNL and The Tonight Show), will roll out and lead up to the NFL’s championship game starting today, Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Faison noted that partnering with Pepsi for this campaign was an easy decision because the company has such an iconic history. Some of his favorite Pepsi ads include actor Michael J. Fox and Michael Jackson and a young Alfonso Ribiero in an unforgettable dance-off.
In this year’s ad, Faison plays lead counselor at “Camp Halftime” and background dancer Martin Tulaine. Channeling the passion of Tony-award winning choreographer George Faison for his role, the Scrubs actor coaches a young dancer through her performance and attempts to distract her groove with any obstacles she may face at the Super Bowl, like being in the middle of the football game if halftime runs too long or if Chris Martin’s helicopter lands on stage.
“The whole point of the campaign is to get people ready for halftime,” says Faison of the campaign, which promotes the highly-anticipated Coldplay performance on Feb. 7. “You can access the videos on pepsi.com and anywhere where Pepsi has a player.” Although Faison cannot confirm or deny what may be happening in the upcoming episodes of the series, he assures that since this is Pepsi, it’s bound to be something that will get people talking.
