The Internet is getting some sweet relief, as it’s being reported that Donald Glover is tapped to join the cast of Jon Watt’s film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Although he won’t be playing the titular character, Glover’s involvement in this project (set to begin production in late-June) is something that we’re all still excited about.
Tom Holland will play Peter Parker in the remake, which takes Spidey back to his high school days. Michael Keaton will portray the villain, Marisa Tomei will be Aunt Mae and Zendaya will portray the female lead. Details of Glover’s character are being kept under lock and key.
Online campaigns to get Glover to play the starring role in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man caught on like wildfire, with Glover even creating an online campaign for a chance to audition for the role. There was even a reference to his wishes to be the masked superhero in an episode of Community. Although he didn’t get the lead in that franchise, he voiced Miles Morales/Spidey in the Disney XD animated series, Ultimate Spider-Man.
A jack-of-all-trades, Glover starred in the television show Community, and his new comedy series, Atlanta, is set to premiere in Sept. 2016. He’s also known as the rapper, Childish Gambino.
