The city of Flint, Mich., is getting some much needed financial relief from the U.S. government. According to the Detroit Free Press, the Senate passed the Water Resources Development Act which will aid Flint with $100 million to accommodate the lead pipes’ repair.
The city’s water conditions have been a topic of discussion across the nation for its hazardous lead-filled water. The consumption of this poisonous substance has led to a myriad of health ailments in children to adults.
Democratic senator, Debbie Stabenow, later shared her sentiments on the bill’s approval. “Today’s passage is an important reminder to the nation that the crisis in Flint is far from over. Families still cannot drink the unfiltered water that comes out of their faucets,” Stabenow said. “Now our colleagues in the House need to act as quickly as possible. It’s also essential that the state of Michigan fully meet its responsibilities to solve the water crisis.”
