Beyonce’s Halloween takeover is becoming a celebration of black women, the latest of which triggered euphoric emotions for anyone who truly adored Olympic legend, Florence Griffith Joyner.
Queen Bey hit up Diddy’s Halloween party in Los Angeles wearing a carefully crafted recreation of an outfit worn by Joyner when she was crowned the fastest woman on earth. Naturally, Joyner’s daughter took to social media Thursday (Nov. 1) with a series of Instagram posts thanking Beyonce for honoring her mother’s legacy.
“Thank you for giving my mom the recognition, paying the homage, and keeping my mother’s memory alive,” Mary Jo Joyner captioned a photo of Bey in costume, along with a message to Jay-Z for paying homage to Tommie Smith’s infamous black power salute at the 1968 Olympic games.
“Track & Field World needs more acknowledgment. My mother is resting in Paradise Smiling,” she noted. “THANK YOU MOMMA QUEEN B.”
Flo-Jo was a once-in-a-lifetime athletic prodigy whose life was cut short in her prime. The Los Angeles native became a force in track & field and went on to win three gold medals at the 1984 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
Joyner, who was also the sister-in-law of fellow track star Jackie Joyner Kersee, retired shortly after the Olympics. She died in 1998 from an epileptic seizer.
