There’s a slew of new emerging talent in hip-hop, and it’s coming from every direction. From rappers to producers, they are all notably increasing their wallet sizes in 2015.
In a recent article by Forbes titled “Hip-Hop Cash Princes: The Class of 2015,” the site highlighted hip-hop’s game highest-paid young acts. The roster includes the likes of Mike Will Made It, Rae Sremmurd, Nipsey Hussle, Ty Dolla Sign, YG, Party Next Door, Migos and Iggy Azalea among many others. The list was compiled by DJ Khaled (former Forbes“Cash Kings”), Tyga (former Forbes “Cash Prince”), Hot 97 host Peter Rosenberg, and Forbes writers Zach O’Malley Greenburg and Natalie Robehmed.
“When I do music, I don’t think about urban music, pop or country,” Mike Will told Forbes. “I just think about a good song.”
But it was not just mastermind beat making skills that catapulted hip-hop’s young elite into becoming money making machines, it’s also about being business savvy. Take Nipsey Hussle, who made $100,00 dollars in one day by selling 1,000 copies of his Crenshaw Mixtape at $100 piece in a local pop-up store in his hometown of Los Angeles. He is also aiming to sell 100 copies of his next project Mailbox Money for $1,000 an album.
“I want to put my cash register in the part of the process that can’t go digital,” Nipsey told Forbes. Also noting that he’s made more than $60,000 dollars in limited edition deals with keepsakes and fan experiences.
