Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Princes is a prediction of some of the genres’ under-30 tastemakers who have the possibility to make their highly-coveted “Cash Kings” list, and some of the choices for the 2016 list have begun to make their marks on the industry.
The list was chosen by Atlantic Records’ Craig Kallman, hip-hop artist Lovebug Starski, media personality Charlamagne Tha God, producer Hit-Boy and Forbes staff members Zack O’Malley Greenburg, Natalie Robehmed and Sidnee Douyon.
The chosen ones include Fetty Wap, Joey Bada$$, G-Eazy, Lil Dicky, Metro Boomin, Young Dolph, Boi-1da and Logic. Charlamagne says that the latter is “interesting” because he doesn’t receive radio airplay, but it still translate to success for him because his fan base is so supportive.
“I would rather have real, loyal love from a couple hundred thousand people than fake love from millions that may or may not translate into any revenue,” The Breakfast Club host said of Logic’s day-ones.
“Cash Princesses” Dej Loaf and Lil Simz also made the list this year, following in the footsteps of list alumna Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks.
“Little Simz is very, very gifted and focused,” said Hit-Boy of his “Don’t Forget” collaborator. “I think she definitely has the mind to take it all the way.”
