Freeway is putting on for his city in a major way. The Philadelphia native will host his Freeway and Friends benefit concert in his hometown on Nov. 20.
The main acts will include Lee Mazin, Bigg Homie, City, Spadeo Quilly, and Ondeck Ent. Other special guests are slated to make an appearance as well. The event aims to raise awareness and proceeds for the National Kidney Foundation, something that is dear to Freeway after a health scare this year.
The “What We Do” rapper was diagnosed with kidney failure after a routine physical. Once he arrived back home, “I got a call from my primary care physician who told me to get to the closest emergency room because my levels was off. My kidney functions was real low and everything was just out of wack. I didn’t know what it was. I was just in tears,” he says.
Thankfully, Freeway bounced back and is still on the road to recovery. Tickets are available for purchase here, but if you can’t make it to the City of Brotherly Love, you can catch Freeway center stage with a live stream of the show on VIBE.com Friday evening (Nov. 20).
