Gabrielle Union is all smiles as the actress, author and activist took to social media Nov. 8 reveal she and husband Dwyane Wade welcomed a new edition to their family: a baby girl.
On Saturday (Nov. 17) the Being Mary Jane star finally informed fans of what her daughter’s name is. The 46-year-old said her daughter’s name is a combination of her uncle’s name who’s also her godfather as well as her own.
” @kaaviajames pronounced Kah-Vee-Uh James,” Union captioned. “We wanted to include my family in her name so the “James” is from my uncle James Francis Glass who is also my godfather. Union is her middle name. I’ve waited this long so fo sho I was gonna get in there.”
Kaavia also has, according to Union, 102 nicknames. “Kaav, Kaavi, Kaavi Baby, Kaavi J, Jamie, KJ, Nugget, Nug, Pooters,” Union wrote.
In Union’s bestselling memoir We’re Going To Need More Wine, she revealed she experienced more than half a dozen miscarriages in an attempt to get pregnant.
“I have had eight or nine miscarriages,” Union revealed. “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”
Union admitted she never wanted children, and then after becoming a stepmother to Wade’s three sons, she realized motherhood was something she wanted.
“I never wanted kids,” she told PEOPLE. “Then I became a stepmom, and there was no place I’d rather be than with them.”
