A black Houston family inside a Walmart parking lot was attacked by a string of bullets on Sunday (Dec. 30), which led to the death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, The Associated Press reports. The child was in the car with her mother LaPorsha Williams and her three sisters, when the gunman pulled up in a red pick-up truck and shot at them. Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene, and Williams was wounded but is expected to recover.
The cause for the shooting is unknown. The attacker is described as a bearded white male in his 40s. Reportedly, there is no information as of yet on his license plate or the exact model of his vehicle. He fled the scene after the shooting. Williams called 911 immediately after the attack.
Local authorities are reportedly on a manhunt for the suspect. “Someone who does something like that will eventually talk about it, and we need anyone with information to come forward,” Houston Sheriff Major Jesse Razo said, per KTRK. “I urge whoever did this, turn yourself in, because we will find you.”
