
A host of actors, actresses, writers and directors of color across television and film have been nominated for awards at the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards. The upcoming ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon on Jan. 8, 2017, and some fan favorites have the chance to take home some top prizes.
Moonlight, directed by Barry Jenkins, garnered six nominations including “Best Director,” Best Supporting Actor and Actress in Any Motion Picture (Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris, respectively) and “Best Film- Drama.”
Loving‘s Ruth Negga, who portrays Mildred Loving, is up for “Best Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama,” while Octavia Spencer is nominated for “Best Supporting Actress in any Motion Picture” for her role as Dorothy Vaughan in Hidden Figures. Last year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient Denzel Washington is up for “Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama” for his role in Fences, which he also directed.
On the television front, The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story earned five nominations, including acting nominations for Courtney B. Vance and Sterling K. Brown.
Runaway hit Atlanta is nominated for “Best Television Series-Musical Or Comedy,” and the show’s creator Donald Glover is up for “Best Actor- Musical Or Comedy” for the role of Earnest. Insecure‘s Issa Rae is nominated for “Best Actress-Musical Or Comedy,” while black-ish co-stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross are both nominated for Best Actor and Actress- Musical Or Comedy, respectively.
