Despite news that Gunplay turned himself in on robbery and assault charges Tuesday (Oct. 9), the MMG rapper was actually admitted into jail today, TMZ reports.
The 106 & Snort spitter’s attorney Mike Greico told Hip-Hop Wired exclusively that his client won’t be released for several weeks.
“The likelihood of [Gunplay] being out by the weekend is slim to none,” said Greico, meaning the rapper will be MIA from the A3C Festival in Atlanta this weekend. The “Power Circle” rapper is being held without bail and will stand before a judge tomorrow. A special bond hearing is scheduled to take place within coming weeks.
His attorney also says being locked up was the better choice for his client. ‘It was either he turned himself in, or if he performed this weekend they would have just pulled him off the stage,” said Greico. “He was in handcuffs at one point up in Atlanta and they released him without knowing that they had a warrant. But they know now.”
Gunplay’s prison trip comes more than a week after his alleged scuffle with members of 50 Cent’s entourage at the BET Hip Hop Awards Sept. 29. Footage was released of Fitty knocking down bowling pins with Gun’s chain on, the one he reportedly lost in the fight.
in lieu of the drama, Greico is optimistic that Gunplay will be set free soon. “My gut tells me he’s going to be exonerated on this. It’s going to take some time though. But for now he’ll be in the jail, he’ll be in the court tomorrow, he looks forward to clearing his name. He wants to get out there and get back in the game.”
