Late last year, Hannibal Buress shined a light on Bill Cosby’s alleged sexual assault cases during a stand-up set in Philadelphia, Penn., calling out Cosby for reportedly drugging and sexually assaulting 13 women.
“Thirteen? And it’s even worse because Bill Cosby has the fu*king smuggest old black man public persona that I hate,” Buress said at the time. “Pull your pants up, black people. I was on TV in the ’80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom. Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby. So, brings you down a couple notches.”
A little after Buress’ set, news stories of the women that Cosby reportedly abused surfaced, with the number of victims reaching 50. Now, Buress has addressed the matter at a show on Friday (Nov. 13), Entertainment Weekly reports.
During the New York Comedy Festival’s “Comedy Central Live in Brooklyn,” Buress said he’s an “accidental whistle-blower,” and that “[the media] put me too much at the front of that sh*t. I was just doing a show” in reference to that October 2014 stand-up appearance.
Cosby’s name still remains in the news with four more women stepping forward and joining an ongoing lawsuit against him, Jezebel reports.
