A homeless high schooler from Memphis was not only named the valedictorian of his senior class, but he also received over $3 million in college scholarships.
Per WHBQ, 17-year-old Tupac Mosley graduated from Raleigh Egypt High School this past weekend with a 4.3 GPA. Thanks to his incredible work in school, he was awarded over 50 scholarships and was accepted to more than 40 colleges. He’s planning on attending Tennessee State University, where he will major in electrical engineering.
He was reportedly homeless for a majority of this school year, moving from house to house not knowing what the next day would entail. He and his family have been living in a cabin provided by a Memphis nonprofit camping site called “For The Kingdom,” which aims to lead Memphis’ urban children and teens in the right direction.
“After my father passed, we fell behind on bills and we ended up getting evicted from our home on Feb. 21,” Mosley said of their situation. “So we went to different homes so far and we were blessed to have For The Kingdom.”
Despite his challenges at home, Tupac didn’t let anything stop him. He thanked his family, friends, and teachers for their unwavering support when interviewed by WHBQ.
“Everything that you poured into me was worth $3 million and counting,” he said during his valedictorian speech. “Never let your current situation, whatever circumstances you’re going through, be a mountain that you can’t climb.”
