
The only thing that could be better than Idris Elba as James Bond is the 46-year old actor dressed as a ferocious feline in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Cats.
According to Dateline, Elba has not only signed on to join the cast of one of Broadway’s most beloved and critically acclaimed musical. But the 46-year-old is rumored to be playing Macavity, the mischievous villain and kidnapping kitty. The role will call for impromptu singing with songs like Macavity: The Mystery Cat” and “Macavity Fight.”
Other notable members of the Cats adaptation will include Taylor Swift, Ian McKellen, James Corden, Laurie Davidson, and Mette Townley and the vocal powerhouse Jennifer Hudson. The original musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber will be directed and produced by Tom Hooper, who has worked on The King’s Speech and Les Misérables.
The film is slated to hit theaters December 20, 2019, right before the winter holiday.
Elba is currently working on his villainous demeanor on the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, expected to hit theaters in July of 2019. He is also working on the fifth season of the British BBC series Luther.
