Jay “Jeezy” Jenkins and Jeannie Mai have officially tied the knot at their intimate wedding on Saturday (March 27). The newlyweds held a private ceremony at their Atlanta home and exchanged vows before close family and friends at an open garden. All guests tested negative for COVID-19 prior to their arrival.
The rapper and television host’s Vietnamese-themed engagement was exactly one year before their wedding day and they planned on eventually getting married in the South of France or at Lake Como in Italy. But the global pandemic, travel restrictions, and the death of Jenkin’s mom were the push that encouraged them to jump the broom sooner.
“We were really looking forward to having all of our friends and family there to celebrate,” Jeannie told Vogue. “But we had to change all of our wedding plans due to COVID. After Jeezy’s mother unexpectedly passed, we quickly learned that life is too short. And at the end of the day, Jeezy and I really just wanted to become husband and wife. So we decided to turn our original wedding into a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends.”
Dressed in a custom-designed “champagne blush suit,” Jeezy arrived at the alter to Kem’s “I Can’t Stop Loving You.” Mai walked down the aisle to the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love?” in her nude Galia Lahav-designed gown, accented with a 15-foot veil. After taking part in a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony, the two said “I Do,” before Tyrese’s surprise serenade of his romantic song, “Sweet Lady.” Guests were asked to wear off-white to symbolize the peace in their marriage.
Wishing a lifetime of love and happiness to Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins. You can find photos from their special day over on Vogue‘s website.
