For the past 16 years, Jill Scott has consistently given fans hearty, honest and heartwarming soul music. Our favorite Philadelphia chanteuse has lyrically exposed the inner parts of herself–the good, the bad, and the indifferent–allowing fans to feel close, calling her Jill or Aunty Jill and not Jill Scott.
Yet despite how much 44-year-old Scott reveals through her music, she’s always kept her personal life private, playing it close to the chest and keeping the gossip rags out of her business. And in true fashion, Scott made sure to keep her engagement and wedding under wraps as well. Saturday (June 25) Scott tied the knot to Mike Dobson.
It’s unclear if the wedding took place at the singer’s home or at a venue. However, what is clear was Scott’s delight. In a minute-long video uploaded to YouTube, Scott can be seen cutting her wedding cake (smiling from ear to ear of course) as the flashes from cameras flicker.
In a later Instagram video, the attendees all clad in white received the surprise of their life when Big Daddy Kane, still smooth as ever, entered the reception reciting his famous words to “Smooth Operator” Jill, who could barely contain herself, completely looses it.
During Scott’s last visit to The Breakfast Club, Angela Yee asked the Woman singer-songwriter if she was dating anyone, and instead of answering coyly took a sip of her green juice. Guess Scott was in the throes of love and didn’t want anyone disrupting her groove.
