Brooklyn’s Joey Bada$$ has been in the Land Down Under putting the word out about his upcoming album B4.DA.$$ — which is set to arrive at retailers on Jan. 20.
Things were going according to plan until the rapper’s appearance at the Falls Festival near Byron Bay in New South Wales on Friday night (Jan. 2). According to reports, Joey, 19, was about to hit the stage when he stopped by a security guard and asked to show credentials. Apparently, the two exchanged words and Bada$$ reportedly punched the guard in the face and subsequently broke his nose.
The 20-year-old security guard received medical treatment for his injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Australian police arrested the Brooklyn MC after his performance and charged him with “assault occasioning actual bodily harm.” Joey spent the night in custody and was released the next day.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports that Joey is due back in court on March 19.
