Joey Bada$$ was included in Larry Wilmore’s The Nightly Show roundtable discussion on Tuesday Oct. 6, and the rapper had some pretty convincing points about a few presidential prospects, especially Hillary Clinton.
The upcoming election will mark the first year the Brooklyn rapper is eligible to vote, and he’s looking to vote for someone who is relatable, likable and ultimately authentic. Unfortunately, none of the candidates who are looking to fill Barack Obama’s shoes are really doing it for him.
“None of the candidates I really relate to. Being a young black man, I can’t really relate to Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump,” he told Wilmore and the other round-table members, Jessica Kirson and John Avlon. Avlon also noted that Clinton is “not going to Nae Nae her way to the Presidency.” Kirson suggests that older women are relating to Clinton, but younger girls don’t relate to her because she doesn’t take enough selfies to which Joey retorted after a selfie of Clinton, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West hit the Internet. However, it still doesn’t convince him because “she looks like a fan.”
Joey laid out what he is looking for in a presidential candidate. The rapper remarked that he would like to see the issues of young black Americans be put in the forefront. One such issue is police brutality.
“For young black voters like myself, there’s a lot of things going on in America that’s affecting us right away,” he said. “For me, I’m looking for that presidential candidate that’s going to put all my problems right at the forefront, like the police brutality issue. I’m favor of anyone who’s standing strong and firm about that issue.”
The North American leg of Joey Bada$$’s World Domination Tour ends on Nov. 7 in Austin, Tx. before taking off to Europe until Dec. 5.
