While performing a chilling stunt on the outside of an airplane mid-flight, rapper Jon James McMurray died at the age of 34 on Saturday (Oct. 20), Billboard reports. The stuntman was filming a video for his song that required him to walk on the wing of a small airplane while rapping.
As the Canadian artist/professional skier moved further onto the aircraft’s wing, “it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn’t correct,” McMurray’s representatives said. After losing his grip, McMurray fell to his death when his parachute didn’t deploy. The incident occurred in Vernon, British Columbia. There were no other reported injuries after the plane made a safe landing.
On the music side, McMurray released a collaboration with Riff Raff titled “The Man” on Oct. 9. He was described by frequent collaborator Bushy Wayne as a person who liked to discover new ways of using cameras to capture the major moments in his life. A GoFundMe page has also been established to assist with funeral expenses and continue the release of his work.
“He loved life so much and he documented everything he did,” Wayne wrote. “He left us this weekend with so many lessons and even more good vibes. He also left us with hundreds of hours of music and footage that is all so, so beautiful.”
