When Confederate flags still flying in 2015 had government officials and Americans debating, The Daily Show host, Jon Stewart, flagged down the “Stars & Bars” defenders on Wednesday’s (June 24) episode to share his two cents.
After investigators found the Confederate manifesto of Emanuel AME Church shooter Dylann Roof, South Carolina’s governor Nikki Haley expressed her support towards the flag’s removal from public buildings. Southern legislators followed in example, along with companies such as Walmart, Sears, Target, and eBay who ended their sales of Confederate merchandise.

However, their efforts did not impress host Jon Stewart. Instead, he had a few sarcastic comments for them: “Taking down the flag only a 150 years after the South surrendered and 20 years after NASCAR did it. Congratulations!”
He then turned to Confederate flag supporters with comparisons to dictator Joseph Stalin and a hit at FOX News. “Ideally, this debate is only the start of a longer conversation addressing the kind of institutional and systemic racism that we have yet to disassemble to this very day,” he said.
