In a recent interview with Revolt TV, Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke revealed he has plans of producing a biopic on the label, similar to 2015’s Straight Outta Compton film. The music mogul shared he’d love to highlight the different struggles him, Jay-Z and Damon Dash overcame to build one of the rap game’s most influential record labels.
“Yeah, I’m working on it now,” Biggs said. “It’ll probably be separate stories of Jay, Damon [Dash] and myself. Showing us as kids to understand what we’ve went through — the pain and hardships.”
“The extenuating circumstances such as me living in a shelter, some people don’t really know that. Being evicted, living in a shelter, and staying in people’s houses and floors for two years,” he continued. “Jay losing his father at four years old when his father left him. Dame losing his mom at 14 years old and having to put himself through private school. So, there were a lot of hardships and things we went through that actually gave us strength.”
Amid his plans about documenting the history of Roc-A-Fella on film, Biggs also addressed how he felt about Dash’s recent apology to all of those he hurt in the past. Dash blames his behavior on his reaction to the death of his ex-girlfriend, R&B star Aaliyah.
“Biggs, I’m sorry bro if I offended you,” Dash said. “Whatever you doing, I’m with it. I love you, man. I know y’all mad at me, but whatever, I’m sorry. I can admit it. When I make some money, I’ll send you something because you my brother. I love your family.”
Biggs simply believes that his apology came more from an intrinsic perspective than genuine redemption. “I didn’t think about it as a sign of reformation,” Biggs said about the apology. “Usually, when people apologize, it’s not so much about the person they’re apologizing to. It’s more about them and relieving that burden or whatever is troubling them. For him to feel better and be in a better space, I’m really happy about that. I’m hopeful that his apology took him to a place, and a level of comfort and forgiveness.”
Nonetheless, Burke’s main focus right now is his success. He recently announced his return to the music industry with his new company, Circle of Success.
