Kevin Spacey will be arraigned in January 2019 on charges of felony sexual assault on a teenage boy, Variety reports.
In a bizarre video posted to YouTube on Monday (Dec. 24), the Oscar-winner seemingly addressed the accusations and his character Frank Underwood’s sudden death from his former show House Of Cards. This is the first time he’s posted on social media since news of his behavior became public knowledge.
“Despite all the poppycock, the animosity, the headlines, the impeachment without a trial,” he said in character as Underwood, the show’s deceased President. He was fired from the Netflix series after ‘Me Too’- style allegations surfaced against him in 2017. “Despite even my own death, I feel surprisingly good and my confidence grows each day that soon enough you will know the full truth.”
Actor Anthony Rapp alleges that Spacey sexually assaulted him at a party at the age of 14. Since then, accusations against Spacey from 20 other men during his tenure as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre have come to light.
“Of course some believed everything. They’re just waiting with baited breath to hear me confess it all…” continues Spacey in the video. “You wouldn’t believe the worst without evidence, would you? You wouldn’t rush to judgment without facts, would you? Did you?”
“All this presumption made for such an unsatisfying ending and to think it could have been such a memorable send off. I can promise you this: if I didn’t pay the price for the things we both know I did, I’m certainly not going to pay the price for the things I didn’t do.”
