According to USA Today, Ware had the bone reset and a rod was inserted into his leg. The wound caused by the bone puncturing through his skin in his lower leg was closed.
Ware’s leg buckled as he was trying to contest a three-pointer by Duke guard Tyler Thornton during the first half of the game.
Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said that Ware shouted for his team to win despite his injury. “The bone’s 6 inches out of his leg and all he’s yelling is, ‘Win the game, win the game,’” Pitino said after the game. “I’ve not seen that in my life. … Pretty special young man.”
After a successful two-hour procedure, Ware is expected to remain in Indianapolis until Tuesday, where he hopes to return to the team as they advance to the Final Four in Atlanta, his hometown.
