Khalid has had many firsts at the top of his career. The “Location” creative can now add an American Music Award to his shelf as he took home his first award for “Best Soul/R&B Male Artist.”
The 20-year-old crooner accepted his trophy Tuesday (Oct. 9) while thanking his fans. It’s been a busy 2018 for the singer as he’s teamed up with soulful pals Normani for “Love Lies,” Ty Dolla $ign and 6LACK for “OTW” and Halsey and Benny Blanco for “Eastside.”
Chatting with Billboard on the red carpet, Khalid shared more plans for new tunes. “It’s in the works, there might be something before the new album,” he said. “I’ve been working on music that really just emulates what’s inside of me. I’ve been taking risks and I’m hoping they pay off.”
He also shared his love for Normani. “Everything you hear in the song is the relationship I share with Normani,” he said of their chart-topping hit. “She’s so great, so amazing and such a good friend.”
