Another day, another instance of trying to insulate problematic, high-profile people from the error of their ways.
Today, TMZ posted a clip of an upcoming episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians in which Kim Kardashian appears to attempt to justify her husband Kanye West’s comments about slavery this past May. In case you forgot (which, we doubt), West stopped by TMZ’s offices and said: “When you hear about slavery for 400 years … For 400 years? That sounds like a choice. You were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.“
“I always know what Kanye’s intentions are and what he’s trying to say,” Kardashian says in the clip. “But I also know that they’re gonna write a headline, and people are gonna assume that that’s exactly what you said and what you meant.”
She later goes on to say that what he said (which is written above) was not the comment, and just a sensationalized headline.
“Kanye’s slavery comment? He never said that,” she proclaims. “That was just the headline. If you listen to what he said, he said, ‘Slavery was 400 years? If it’s gonna be another 400 years, that sounds like a choice to me.’ He didn’t say, ‘Slavery is a choice.’ He was saying ‘If you’re gonna be enslaved for another 400 years, then that’s some bullsh*t.'”
TMZ reports on their site that there was no editing or doctoring done to West’s comments, and he said what he said.
