Kim Kardashian is making headlines for something other than her forthcoming wedding to Kanye West or her risque selfies. The reality star used her blog as a platform Wednesday (May 7) to voice her thoughts on racism and discrimination.
In a post titled “On My Mind”, Kim writes that motherhood has made her more aware of racism and discrimination, especially after having read and gone through personal experiences.
While she admits she never gave both evils much thought prior, giving birth to her daughter, North, has made the 33-year-old see the world through her infant’s eyes. Referencing stories like slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin’s untimely death, and teenager Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Talban for voicing her favorable opinion on women’s rights, made her conscious of the type of world she wanted Nori to be raised in.
“I feel a responsibility as a mother, a public figure, a human being, to do what I can to make sure that not only my child, but all children, don’t have to grow up in a world where they are judged by the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation. I want my daughter growing up in a world where love for one another is the most important thing,” she writes.
“So the first step I’m taking is to stop pretending like this isn’t my issue or my problem, because it is, it’s everyone’s…”
