Kurtis Blow recounted a scary and nearly-fatal medical emergency that caused him to be rushed into surgery last week. The hip-hop legend took to Instagram to share that his spleen ruptured which subsequently led to internal bleeding in his stomach.
“The Covid 19 virus is crazy but last week I had another emergency surgery. My spleen was bleeding into my stomach. The surgeon said I was lucky to make [it] in time,” he wrote on Monday (March 16).
Thankfully, Blow is on the mend after undergoing surgery at Southern California’s West Hills Hospital where he had his spleen removed. “My spleen had splattered and I was bleeding internally. I am in recovery now and I thank God for the great physician Dr. Jamali. The great surgeon Dr. Schriver and all the nurses and assistants and West Hills Hospital.”
He also thanked his wife and family for their prayers. “Thank God for still another chance. 7 operations. A cat with 9 lives. Amen!!!!”
The 60-year-old New Yorker has battled health issues over the years including in 2019 when he underwent heart surgery. In 2016, he collapsed outside of a mall and was saved by LAPD officers.
