Lil Nas X is a Twitter enthusiast who has used the social media platform to drive his music career. From going viral with his single “Old Town Road,” to growing his fan base and unveiling his personality through memes and jokes, Twitter has become a major vehicle for his success. The social media site also led him to introduce music collaborations and remixes to his history-making track.
The chart-topping and record-breaking artist posted on his Twitter account Friday (July 26) that he would be taking over Twitter as interim CEO for the day replacing Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
“I’m going to twitter headquarters and i will be replacing @jack as the ceo for the day,” he wrote. “Everyone must nae nae or be at risk for account suspension!”
Twitter Music dropped the “Old Town Road (CEO Remix)” giving an inside look into Nas X’s big day. The comedic one-minute interview includes the artist agreeing to be paid $1.40 a year and receiving his official badge. Twitter staff also received hand-pressed paninis in a nod to his 7 EP track, “Panini.”
His short yet memorable Twitter CEO experience was the perfect way for the Billboard Hot 100 No.1 artist to celebrate his huge, new achievement. Yesterday (Jul. 29), the Atlanta musician topped the charts for a record 17th week, making “Old Town Road” the longest-running No. 1 of all time.
