Loretta Lynch has just made history as the first black woman to become Attorney General of the United States. Lynch, who was sworn in by Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Wednesday (June 17), presides over the position that was previously held by Eric Holder.
The trailblazer also joined Twitter, sending out an epic message to her followers.

She also revealed that she used Frederick Douglass’ Bible to solidify the proceeding, typing “His life is an inspiration to me.”

Lynch previously held the title of United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and now she’s continuing to add to the history books.
