While Lupita Nyong’o is well on her way to becoming one of the most respected young actresses of our time, she is also adding some impressive new line items to her professional resume. After the historic box office success of her latest project with Jordan Peele, the Us actress announced that she is now the proud author of a children’s book.
According to Simon & Schuster, her new picture book Sulwe, illustrated by Vashti Harrison, is a mystical story about a little girl with very dark skin who has to overcome “colorism, self-esteem, and [learn] that true beauty comes from within.”
“I wrote Sulwe to inspire children (and everyone really!) to love the skin they are in and to see the beauty that radiates from within,” Lupita wrote about her children’s book.
While the book does not officially release until Oct. 1, it is currently available for pre-order here.
